review 1: The only reason I chose this book to read is that its setting is a town in Spain where my son is going to do his college study abroad. And it didn't disappoint in giving me a flavor of the area with descriptions of streets, museums, parks, weather and festivals. But it also provided a good story without any vampires, which I find to be a nice change in the world of "immortals". The book ends with a clear opening for the second book in the series and I've already purchased it and although I'm not burning to read it immediately; I will read it. If I thought my Spanish was up to the task, I would try to read it in the original. I do think something is missing in the translation. Exactly what...I wish I knew!
review 2: This book was a little hard for me to rate. I... more felt the story was pretty darn good, with the right amount of twists and turns, all of which were not that transparent.The characters were believable, although I didn't enjoy the main female character that much, nor some of the background characters. I did like the story of the larger family though, and that was what kept me going.But, the book suffered in its "writing". This may have been due to the translation. The overuse of automaton was maddening. Some of the terms and language seemed odd. The writing just seemed immature. There are a few loose ends; some are obviously deliberate for the next book. But some seem just loose ends that the writer forgot to tie up. Anyway, I guess I will have to wait till the next book to find out if that is true or not.So yes, I will most likely read the second one. Not on my immediate list though. less
