review 1: It was an incredible reading. I was looking for a story involving BDSM and I found TJ's review about The Violet and The Tom. It gave me right there the envy of reading it.This is the story of a slave and a master but who's who, that's the question. The writing is incredible : sometimes I felt difficult to read it, but mostly because English is not my maternal language and it was as if some American was reading Gargantua by Rabelais in Old French. Because the plot takes place in an ancient time, the words are rearranged to match the period. So, it might have been a struggle to keep my understanding even, but it was worth it. A beautiful story, really magical. It felt so real, even if it couldn't be transposed in our time. Still, I could almost believe I would find Syl and N... moreygell standing next to me in the street. I loved them and it is so incredible that it is still not published. I wish I were an editor to make people pay for this beautiful story. I would gladly pay for it, to be able to read it again and again whenever I want.Enjoy !
review 2: Extremely well written. The shift from Sylvan as slave (eromenos) to Master is very, very well done and Nygell's need to be dominated is beautifully documented. This is VERY slow build. Might be too slow for some. Even though the author addresses this, Sylvan could have been a little quicker on the uptake in places. It is not easy to unlearn a lifetime of training, but it could have been a smidgeon faster. Still, this was an amazing read. Very believable, with lots of attention to detail. I loved the epilogue! 4.25 less
