review 1: A good way for people to learn more about the french monarchy and the times leading up to the french revolution. Having a story line to follow makes the history of it all seem a little less dull for us non-history buffs. I will say, I found the alternating chapters a bit confusing at times but overall thought the book was really good (just couldn't justify more stars because of the nature of the material).
review 2: The book cover says this is a"beautifully realized historical novel" that "reveals the untold love story between Swedish aristocrat Axel Von Fersen and Marie Antoinette." As far as I'm concerned the love story remains untold. It's more of a history book - and a rather dry one - than love story. Other than his fond wishes that the dauphin was his son
... more and vague descriptions of a tryst room for the 2, they might have only been friends or he a man infatuated with a beautiful and unavailable woman. Definitely not spellbinding. less
