review 1: A king punishes criminals in an arena. There are two doors, one containing a beast and in another lies a woman suitable for the criminal to wed. The people love this idea by the king for they get to see a hilarious wedding as a prize for a man's innocence, or a gruesome death of a man who is proved guilty. But this trial that is happening is unlike any other, people from far and near have come to watch the spectacle. The king discovered that a young man was having a relationship with his daughter so he was sent to the trial. The daughter knew exactly what is behind the two doors and told the young man which door should he pick. Will the young man perish by being eaten by a beast or will the daughter perish by seeing his beloved get married to a girl who has been wanting hi... morem for a time?The story has no answer. The author believes it is not his place to tell what door the daughter chose and I believe it is not the reader's too. We may have multiple discussions supporting our claims but only the daughter in the story knew the truth. That is what I love about this story, it is ambiguous and leaves a lot for interpretation.
review 2: At first I thought I was going to hate this because I had to read this in class one morning for school, but like the famous quote, "Never judge a book by it's cover." Our teacher told us that they sometimes read this in college psychology classes and I kind of started to like it a little more. After I read I was in awe, I never had a short story just stop like that. After thinking about it, I came up with my own theory if I was in the lady's position: She told him to choose the lady and after her father died he would kill the lady and be with the man she loved. less
