review 1: This book is a beautiful work of art to savor. The book is composed of two dozen essays about walking. The author refers to Kant, Socrates, Thoreau, Gandhi, Nietzsche, and other philosophers in terms of their habits of walking as meditation but the book is not hard core philosophical theory. The thoughts and intentions remain accessible to anyone. Made me want to grab my backpack and head to the woods.
review 2: A PHILOSOPHY OF WALKING was such a beautiful and inspiring journey of a read!! Brilliant and gorgeously written. I happen to be one who truly loves walking and enjoys the communing with nature. This book hit upon that and so much more. There were narratives about countless others who have enjoyed enlightenment through this mode of transport, as well as
... moreinterpretations concerning the various facets of walking itself. I feel this book would appeal however to even our dear cousin, Couch Potato as it contains the power to lift one up and out of the simple conviction of merely walking with offerings of philosophy and parallels to our living, learning, and loving of life. less
