The Witches of the Glass Castle
review 1: I received this book from Enticing Journey in return for a fair and honest review. This book starts with a bang as there is a fire in the cellar. Mia is the one who caused it although she has no idea how but it is her brother, Dino, who is suffering from it. Her mother and aunt take it all in stride and explain that it's about due as they're witches so off to the Glass Castle they go.Now Dino is in a lot of pain, which is excellently explained, and he portrays the pained, grumpy, disgruntled teenager to perfection. He does make friends though and is very good friends with Blue aka Buttons (who is simply brilliant!)Mia makes friends with a girl her own age called Kizzy who is a seer. Mia doesn't know what she is and almost feels jealousy of Dino although she knows how much h... moree is hurting. So put these two together with a group of other witches, throw in the danger of the unknown and you have a fantastic story that will draw you in and keep you turning the pages WAY past your bedtime!I loved the relationship between Mia and Dino - it was so typically familial. Deep love and yet there is still irritation, jealousy, envy and even hatred, they're all there.A short mention of Colt - he is the love interest of Mia and of course, he has to be a hunter. I loved Colt! He is such a brilliantly written character - a perfect mix of being a bad-ass, so arrogant it makes your teeth itch but then a hint of vulnerability that makes you want to hug him.The plot line is well paced and the story and backstory is very well written. Nothing feels rushed about this book, everything seems to develop at the perfect time. Mia is only 16 and as such, some of her reactions had me shaking my head but it wasn't long before Colt came along and sorted things out. Really enjoyed this and would recommend without any doubts. Looking forward to book 2.
review 2: After only receiving positive feedback about this book, I finally decided to read it myself. People told me it would be a bit like Harry Potter. Well, for me it´s definitely not.The plot is about two siblings, Mia and Dino experiencing that they have witchcraft powers. While not having been told anything about that, they are brought to a special school called the Glass Castle. Both are trying to develop their special powers there. Unfortunately there also are others things they have to worry about...For me, this book has not much in common with Harry Potter despite the Schol of Wizardry and Witchcraft... But nevertheless I absolutely adored that book and I couldn´t stop reading- I really like the author´s style of writing and the way she develops the story. Also because it is written in different points of view (which I generally like, because it gives you an overview obout several characters)I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes to read YA, Romance and Fantasy books and I´m really looking forward to sequel which is coming up this month ( december 2014).( I apologize for any grammar or spelling mistakes - I´m no native speaker :) ) less
