review 1: More gym reading (read: free). I don't know much at all about the Medicis. For some reason, they've not interested me terribly, but I'm also never given them a whole lot of thought. So, I've no idea how much of this is existing fact, how much is conjecture, and how much is just completely and totally made up. Lucrezia is made of stupid. Let's look at the facts: -Her husband is a sadistic bastard who's yet to consummate your marriage after 2 years because he can't get it up for her.-Lucrezia is a virgin still. So, what does she do? Has sex with the painter. Really? Idiot!Despite that fact, this one was okay. It was readable, but not something I'd particularly recommend or even look for more from this author.
review 2: I was expecting historical fiction,
... more but I got a Harlequin romance type of novel. This is my own fault: didn't read the description carefully enough. Nevertheless, the novel is uneven: there are some really good scenes, and then there are cliches mounted on top of cliches. Moreover, most descriptions of characters are repetitive. There are more words to describe a woman than ” slight and boyish” and ”voluptuous” and more words to describe a man than ” sycophant, and she repeatedly uses ”sybaritic” to describe both men and women. Since Kimm uses these words to describe most characters, the excuse that the repetition creates a consistency, a pattern doesn't apply. less

Love that it's based on a Browning poem. But it's not that great.
