Hello! I understand that I was supposed to do a full week of posts, but the grade eight workload was freaking crazy! So here we are…..
This is a list of my FAVORITE Billy Talent songs, and let me tell you that this was very hard to compile, as I love pretty much all their music. But these are the 10 songs that stand out for various reasons.
HONORABLE MENTIONS:
5- A Passage To Bangkok (Rush Cover)
4- Stand Up and Run
3- Surrender
2- Burn The Evidence
1- Living In The Shadows
RUNNER UP:
Standing In The Rain
THE TOP TEN:
#10-
Try Honesty
I love both versions of ‘Try Honesty’, and the acoustic. This song was definitely their rise to fame. They were all in a weird place when they made the ‘Try Honesty’ EP, with Ian and Jon in college, and Aaron learning he had MS. But this album shaped my opinion on rock, metal and punk.
#9-
White Sparrows
‘White Sparrows’ is one of the only three songs that can make me cry. This song tells the story of a man and a women who are deeply in love, but then due to health complications, the woman passes away. This song really resonates and provokes feeling.
#8-
Rabbit Down The Hole
‘Rabbit Down The Hole’ was definitely one of the best songs off of ‘Afraid Of Heights’. It is an amazing six minute power ballad that has one of Ian’s best guitar riffs yet. It did take me a few months to warm up to, but now it is one of my absolute favorites.
#7-
Nothing To Lose
I don’t think I need to say anything about this one. Such a sad song. The other song that makes me cry. I love it. Don’t ask me why. I don’t know. I just do.
#6-
The Ex
The single-handed best angry breakup song ever. It’s impossible not to love it as Ben sings about a girl who broke his heart so much, he felt he needed to write a song about it! It is one of the best songs ever. Even though i’ve never been dumped. Although, my best friend ditched me for the ‘cool crowd’, so that’s relation enough.
#5-
Devil On My Shoulder
I love it. It is absolutely fabulous. Hands-down one of my favorites. Some of the best guitar and bass works are on this one song. Some of it is actually so relatable! Ahem… As I get closer, my dreams get farther, I climb that ladder, you kick it over….. I;ve dug a hole so deep im gonna drown in my mistakes. Yep, so relatable!
#4-
Surprise, Surprise
That music video though…… But we’re not talking about tyrant pigs. We are talking about the rebellious sounds that made me fall in love with Billy Talent in the first place. I still love it!
Here’s the music video for people who want to see it…. I dont know why you would.
#3-
Rusted From The Rain
Getting down to the nitty gritty, are we?
What is there not to love about ‘Rusted From The Rain’? The music video had absolutley nothing to do with the song, but the video was still amazing like always. I love this song. It was actually the first song from their third album that I ever heard. ‘Surprise, Surprise’ and ‘Rusted From The Rain’ got me into this band!
#2-
The Crutch
It’s hard and it’s raw rock and it’s absolutely f-ing flawless. One of the best songs on AOH (Afraid Of Heights). Like I said, it’s flawless. Out of all the songs on AOH,this one sounds the most like a traditional punk song. I love it. You need to play it as LOUD as freaking possible.
#1-
Voices of Violence
This is one of my absolute favorites! But it really is a three way tie. I know this is one of their older songs, but it is one of the best. It also contains one of my favorite quotes: Don’t Wait For, A Knight In Shining Armour… Your Savior, is Reflected in the mirror. Yep. ‘Voices of Violence’ is one of the best songs they’ve written.
THE OTHER FAVES! (THAT TIED WITH VOICES OF VIOLENCE):
Perfect World
Half Past Dead
That is my top 10, and the ones that tied with ‘Voices of Violence’, plus others. Feel free to share your top 10, and like and follow me for more top 10 songs by artists like Young Guns and Cage the Elephant. Stay Gold and do your best to survive the first month af school! I know it’s difficult, but you can do it!
