review 1: I'll give you a warning: I'm very picky whenever it comes to education textbooks. With that being said, let's go on. This book was okay, just okay for me. To me, I really didn't see anything that was all that new. So much of it just seemed common sense to me. I'm not saying that it had bad ideas, some of them were quiet good, especially the belief on worksheets and having parents involved. I also like the idea of having students pick what they want to work and am a fan of good fit books. I also like all the extras in the appendix, I love getting books that offer extras so I don't have to make them up on my own. Now, it's time to point out what I didn't like. One thing that really, really bothered me was so much of the sisters day was focused on math and reading. For exampl... moree, the sample lesson plan only offers thirty minutes out of the entire day for a flex block-where all the other subjects are taught. Yeah, I get that this is important, but other things do need to be taught. Picking books that hold students interest should be a no brainier for teachers and they shouldn't have to be told. I really do feel like I've read a completely different book than what others are saying.
review 2: I have read the Daily 5 (First Edition) and have implemented it into my literacy block this past school year. I wasn't sure if I would need the second edition since I've experienced it already. I borrowed it from my principal and will be buying it for my library! This edition includes so many useful tools that make the starting process clearer. It combines the Daily 5 (with updates), CAFE, and includes a chapter on the Math Daily 3! I can't wait for my teammates to read this so that we can discuss it together before next school year starts! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND! less
