review 1: This...was good. It's the kind of book I wish I read for a class, because then I would appreciate just how smart it is. Instead, I was sucked in by the wit and the plot of the first half, and confused and bored by the second half. Probably party because I'm not interested in spiritual awakenings, probably party because I don't like novels that feel like short stories pieced together. But I did appreciate the writing and humor. Basically, Finn and Jeb recommended this book to me..and that makes so much sense.
review 2: very rarely does a book make me stop everything i'm doing and go back to find specific parts to re-read again immediately. the scenery of venice is beautiful but shallow, the scenery of varanasi is depleted but fulfilling. perfect pitch in every w... moreay, and when it ended i spiraled down a rabbit hole of googling to try and find out other interpretations of the book by other readers. highly recommend. less
