review 1: I loved this book! The simple sentences allowed my students to fluently and expressively read this book! I thought the graphic novel piece of this was fun and was well loved by second graders. I would use this story in a small group and have my students work on reading with pacing a expression. I would involve a readers theater type of approach as there are a few characters in the book and they all have speaking parts. The expression piece is great for learners because they need to look ahead to their part and punctuation so that it is read correctly. I'm looking forward to reading more Toon books for my class in the future!

... moreo mice siblings who go exploring their curiosity, their investigative skills and inevitability, their neighbor’s backyard. At first their intentions are innocent, trying only to sneak a peak at the new kid their mother told them about, but things change when footprints lead them to believe they might be living next door to a thief! This book is written using only speech bubbles, a concept very helpful for young readers in understanding character perspective and emotion. The illustrations all do a wonderful job of displaying the emotions of the character in their expressive faces and body language, as anger, fear, sadness and happiness are all explored throughout their adventure. I personally really enjoyed reading this book and even as an adult, I found myself engaged and anxious to see how their adventure would play out. I believe that children would be even more enticed with this story, and could make some real life connections to its realistic plot. I think this book would be a great addition to any early elementary classroom library for students just learning to read, as in grades 1st and 2nd. Teachers could also use this book as a way to explore emotions, character dialogue, decision making skills or even story sequencing and predictions. less
