review 1: Continuing in the Greatest ideas, The Decline of the English Murder.I have to admit i picked it up mainly for its title (and because I love Orwell). I did enjoy it but a bit less than Books vs Cigarettes. The essays that I liked most was "Hop-Picking Diary" and "Good Bad Books". What I really enjoy in those essay, besides the themes, it's Orwell's styles. It's non fiction but not the heavy kind that you have to stop to read after 10 minutes because you have a headache. it's really fluent and even funny at some point.
review 2: I couldn't think that one day I'll evaluate one of Orwell's work less than 5 stars !!The fact that these were essays not a novel has nothing to do with the low evaluation, but the topic itself. These are essays wrote by Orwell the journal
... moreist not the novalist. They are very old essays talking about things I couldn't relate to : specific murders in England back in 1930, newspapers and comics, bad books I never heard of, letters from women readers about the women daily journals , and such topics I couldn't correlate to or enjoy reading them. Also, why with such old topics , I found Penguin Classics categorize them under "Great Ideas" publications !! Tha was my main purpose for buying it then I found nothing! So disappointed!!

Not as riveting as the other collections of essays published by penguin but interesting nonetheless.
