Book review: Miss Fortune Cookie, by Lauren Bjorkman

Bjorkman, Lauren. Miss Fortune Cookie. Henry Holt and Company, 2012.  $16.99. ISBN 978-0-8050-8951-6. 274 p. Gr. 8 and up. P9Q9

Erin is a smart, capable student who secretly writes a popular advice column called “Miss Fortune Cookie.” When Erin’s former best friend writes a letter seeking advice it reacquaints the two and propels the friendship forward.

Verdict: This is a delightful book!  While it’s been quite some time since I read it, I remember clearly the feelings I enjoyed while reading it.  Bjorkman sprinkles the writing with many Chinese phrases and words and helpfully includes a glossary.  The story is written with humor and a voice that represents a teen interested in friendships, college life, and romance.
