review 1: How did I miss reviewing this earlier? Sorry, GG. (Actually, I may have done: 37 of my reviews went missing last winter for no apparent reason. Grr.)A couple of years ago, I had a conversation with my friend and reading buddy Peg, which went something like this:Peg: You know GG, don't you?Me: Well, we're acquainted online. I've corresponded with her quite a bit.Peg: TELL HER TO PUBLISH! TELL HER I'M HER BIGGEST FAN AND NOTHING COMPARES TO THIS STORY! NOTHING!Yes, Peg most definitely deafened me with her enthusiasm. I told Peg to tell GG herself, and she did. And much time passed, as time is wont to do. Much similar pleading came from Peg. And from me. And about a billion other people. And here, we have a lovely, complete trilogy.I just had to share that, because we're both... more so proud of GG.This is Book#1, of course. Aubrey Price is a 22 year old undergrad and Daniel Grant is a 27 year old grad student who, unfortunately, is forbidden to fraternize with her because he's her TA. The thing is, they can't resist the mutual draw: both are exceptionally intelligent, enamoured with the Bard and fully able to hold their own in a verbal joust. Both have a huge amount at stake should a blooming romantic attachment be uncovered and there are not a few enemies lurking who would relish bringing them down. And you just pray the whole time you're reading that they won't get caught because they're freaking perfect together!!!I love Daniel. He's truly suffered at the hands of a malicious student. One of the most endearing things about him is that he tends to spout poetry (or write parodies of it for Aubrey's consumption). And after he says something really gorgeous, he tends to follow it up with some adorkable whisper.Shakespeare is timeless. I love the use of apt quotations in this book. Why are you still reading my review? Go and read!
review 2: I really had a hard time putting this book down! I thoroughly enjoyed how brilliantly all of the characters came alive off the pages. There was nothing weak about any of them. And oh how some of them made me laugh with their dialogue - and I mean out loud guffaws which left me with a grin on my face for pages! The way that GG's writing worked in all of the Shakespearean references and quotes was simply beautiful. She really has a way to build up anticipation, and I will definitely go back and revisit, re-read, highlight and lose myself in Aubrey & Daniel's story again and again. (and it will definitely be added it to my word-of-mouth "recommend to friends" list!) less
