review 1: This short story collection was breathtaking. I truly felt both anxious and intrigued as I was reading it. The author clearly understands each of the characters she writes about, and the stories come from a very dark yet likely place. In fact, the women in these stories have come to expect violence merely because they are women and that's the way it is in the world we live in, a reality as crushing and sad as I expect to encounter in any book, anywhere, any time soon. less
