review 1: Seduced by Destiny by Kira MorganHistorical Romance -March 1st, 20113 ½ starsJosselin Ancrum is a rebellious young woman. She is given leave by her three adopted fathers to travel to the capital and join in the festivities welcoming Queen Mary back to Scotland. But despite her fathers’ strict warning, Jossy keepst getting into trouble! When she is saved in street brawl, Drew McAdams quickly realizes that Jossy is a female despite her disguise. He is enchanted by this Scottish minx and is attracted to her. (Even though Drew is an English nobleman who loathed all Scottish.) But can their fiery attraction to each other overcome all obstacles? This is the first Scottish themed romance book that I read that has golf in it! I can’t believe that Drew goes around Scotland ... moreplaying golf winning tournaments and winning money from the Scottish. It was an original and a refreshing change from the typical Scottish warrior plotline. This is a hilarious and sweet story with enjoyable characters. Jossy is an entertaining and endearing heroine. Brash and reckless, she also posseses a courageous and loyal heart, which makes her a likeable character. Drew is also also charms with his roguish ways and his genuine affection for Jossy. Merry and light, this is not your typical Scottish romance!Reviewed by Pauline from the Bookaholics Romance Club
review 2: This was a Goodreads giveaway win. Unusual - a romance involving golf, in 16th c. Scotland no less, a first for me. Parts made me laugh, although I'm not sure that was the author's intent. Much of the book was pretty far-fetched, but not to the point that it was bothersome - heroine, seemingly low-born or middle class at best, could read and fight with a sword, her uncles let her go to Edinburgh on her own (really? in the 16th c.?), she runs all over Edinburgh by herself, is randomly picked by Queen Mary's spymaster to spy for the Queen, etc. This was one of those romances where everyone misunderstands everyone else because no one will actually talk to anyone else, and the entire plot conflict is based on these misunderstandings. I often find these books frustrating, screaming to myself, "just talk to him, stupid!", but in this one at least the misunderstandings were laughable enough to be entertaining. Jossy was pretty annoying - she was so sure she knew everything, even though she was usually very wrong. I liked Drew though, and I was rooting for them to get together. less
