review 1: Oh, to have the words to describe the utterly vivid, imaginative imagery and language in this novel! An amazing story that left me wanting more. It's a strange and delightful novel. I am sorely disappointed that Goldie Goldbloom has no other published novels yet, and her book of short stories is only published in Australia. I have to get my hands on it somehow. She has such a way with words and an intimate understanding of difference, and the way that social stigma and marginalization affects an outcast's ability to love others and themself.
review 2: I liked this book, but not as much as I feel like I should, if that makes any sense. It's beautifully written with poetic prose and fantastic imagery. It felt insightful and it was compelling in the purest sense o... moref the word -- I felt compelled to keep reading. At times it wasn't easy to read, but I was invested so I kept going. This is not a light and cheerful book, but it is worth the time investment of expiriencing it. less
