review 1: It seems there is no end to the variety of literature with WWII as a backdrop. This book is a perfect example. Probably the most unique book I've read on the topic. The plot surrounds a couple thrown together by their mutual rejection by society for differing reasons and places them in the Australian outback. Mix in a pair of Italian POW's and the romance that ensues is subtle, yet compelling. Character development is rich without being wordy. Beautifully written.

Aside from being a really great story, this book describes the hardships faced by rural Australians.
