review 1: It seems there is no end to the variety of literature with WWII as a backdrop. This book is a perfect example. Probably the most unique book I've read on the topic. The plot surrounds a couple thrown together by their mutual rejection by society for differing reasons and places them in the Australian outback. Mix in a pair of Italian POW's and the romance that ensues is subtle, yet compelling. Character development is rich without being wordy. Beautifully written.
review 2: Interesting set-up: Australian albino woman, living on a remote farm with her horrible dwarf husband and 2 Italian POWs. Certainly was a descriptive account of the hardships of being different and trying to eke out a living. The story just didn't come together; especially at the end. Howev... moreer, I certainly finished the book cause I had to find out how the heck it was going to end (I was grateful when it did). less
