review 1: I absolutely love this picture book. I would highly recommend that every child over around the ages of 4-6 read it. Being much older than 6 I would also have some adults read it. The images were quite captivating. A little boy is fascinated with The Legend of the Golden Snail. So he goes on a journey to find the Golden Snail for himself. He has many adventures and helps characters in the story that later help him. He then finds the Golden Snail and frees it. He is given a gift that gives his tiny boat wings. The pictures in the story help complete the story. It's as though the image makes the page more complete and takes you there. The words of the spell drew me in and there was a small reading in the beginning that the story was built upon. There was also a map at th... moree end that allows you to trace the journey. Also at the end there was an image that was hidden in all the pictures and you can find them all and log on to the website. These are activities I can include in the classroom while reading the book during story time. The Golden Snail definitely was an adventure from the words to the pictures. I found myself exploring the pictures in depth. The little boy's character was very noble especially in releasing the snail. He made a friend in every challenge he faced.
review 2: Another really beautiful, meaningful picture book story by Base. The story was a little complex, and should be considered for the older crowd of picture bookers. I found the message similar to the story of the Lion and the Mouse. The art was fairly captivating, and the hidden shells make it all the more fun. Of Base's newer books, this is the most imaginative and unique story with appropriately excellent publishing. If your child loved Animalia and the Water Hole and they are a year or two older and ready for something new, this is it. Not a masterpiece, but very good. Recommend. less
