review 1: This has a fun low stakes comic Elmore Leonard mixed with Disclosure vibe, which is an original and fun combination. For the most part, these are really great characters in a compelling situation. I write "for the most part" because there are two characters who are impossible to tell apart and redundant to a third character who was way more interesting. To wit, the second third of this book drags because we're with a character named Crazy Larry so deliberately quirky, he becomes a bore. In the last third, however, the pace picks up beautifully and it becomes a real page turner. The author also manages to really capture Silicon Valley and the corporate mindset of 2008 without being didactic. Good book but Crazy Larry keeps it from being great. Shame.
review 2: A
... more really wonderful and entertaining book. I finished it in record time. There are some very well developed and interesting characters, such as Crazy Larry (who reminds me a bit of Serge Storms, from Tim Dorsey novels) and Calhoun (who reminds me, a bit, of Newman on Seinfeld). I laughed very hard at times. The plot is pretty straightforward, but still original and zany. Very well written and poignant at times, too. less

This book will billed as being funny, but I thought it was just plain ridiculous and not that funny.
