Stacking the Shelves #4: New Reads

It’s been a good week off from school and work.  My son was fortunate enough to procure a ton of new reads for Christmas.  Some from me, some from others.  One thing he did receive was a gift card to Books-A-Million.  I actually found myself eager as we went to the store yesterday.  Walking through the aisles as he looked through all of the books, reminded me of my childhood.  I had always loved receiving Books-A-Million gift cards.  It was always a treat to be able to go purchase new books and I was happy to see the same kind of joy on my son’s face.  I’ll admit, I was a little disappointed in his purchases.  He chose the movie companion guide for Diary of a Wimpy Kid and a toy toilet from the Captain Underpants movie.  But he was happy and that was more than enough for me.

While we were searching, I found two books that I couldn’t resist picking up for myself.  The first is Coco: A Story About Music, Shoes, and Family by Diana Lopez, which is based on the Disney movie Coco.  We saw the movie in the theater on Thanksgiving and I absolutely loved the story.  The book is a hardcover and it includes beautiful colored details throughout the entire story.  It’s my goal for my son and I to read the book together over the next few weeks.  But it was certainly a find I couldn’t resist.

The other book I purchased is Here’s Negan! by Robert Kirkman.  As a fan of The Walking Dead, I have been extremely curious about Negan’s backstory.  Robert Kirkman was kind enough to create an entire book series about the rise and fall of the Governor, so I’ll admit I’m a little disappointed that only one comic is dedicated to Negan.  Negan is my favorite antagonist in this series, so I wish more effort had been put into his story.  But I suppose beggars can’t be choosey.

It’ll probably be awhile before I purchase anymore books.  I return to work next Tuesday and school resumes the following Monday.  It’s my hope that I’ll be able to read one book a week, but I have to set my graduate research project and homework as a priority this semester.  So we will see what happens!
