Book Review: What do you do with a problem?

What do you do with a problem is a recent release that I took a look at while I was in Barns and Noble yesterday.  I pulled the book off the shelf because of its traditional art work but the story stole my heart and I’ve already ordered a copy!

The premise of the book is that a problem, in the form of a purplish cloud-storm, is following this little boy.  The boy goes through all the motions that a normal person would when facing a problem.  Avoiding, hiding, feeling anxious about it.  But then the boy decides to tackle the problem and well, I won’t spoil it.

Art Work
I LOVED the artwork!  I always have huge respect for traditional art in picture books.  Not knocking all the great digital art out there, but there is just something raw and appealing by the unperfected lines of a traditional art book.  The right amount of color, love the character models and the world Mae Besom has created visually.

The Writing/Story.
Kobi Yamada has done a great job pulling the heart strings.  I could relate to the young boy so strongly!  It is written very well!  Not overwhelming you with a lot of text per page. The story moves at a nice pace.  Even at about 40 pages you never feel like the story is dragging.  The story is incredibly clear and focused.  It doesn’t trail off on things that don’t matter.

Overall What do you do with a problem? Is delightful and needs to be on every person’s bookshelf.  As someone who is currently experiencing several adult problems, I was encouraged by this little book.  Go support this amazing author and pick up a copy of this book!  At the time of this blog post Barns and Noble is having a sale of the book for 7.99 with the purchase of any other kids book.  Enjoy!
