review 1: The author's descriptions of the devastation and response of those affected by the tsunami are vivid and detailed. I thought reading it might be depressing. Instead, I was moved by the small, daily steps people took to recover and regain their lives. It is a sad and cautionary tale but I loved the way she told it. Never heavy handed, simply reporting the stories as she heard and saw them, letting you draw your own parallels.

Her very Buddhist desire to question and probe and explore. So I loved this book, which taught me more (intellectually and heartfully) about the tsunami and its aftermath than anything else I've read. less
