Mangaman
by Barry Lyga and Colleen Doran
My rating: 1 of 5 stars
Concept, ok. Writing, whatever. Art, yikes. The art style or lack their of for both the Japanese & American comic tradition feels like it’s missing it’s basic foundation. It gives off a feeling of being void, flat, and lifeless. It seems that neither the illustrator nor the author were strong enough to pull this concept off. I died a little inside.
Makes me rethink the rating I gave the illustrator on her How to Draw Manga book, “Manga Pro Superstar”. I feel a bit deceived. How could she write something called “Manga Pro” without perfecting her own craft?
I need to read something else quick, and get these images out of my head!
