review 1: As an expose of how some some history needs to be re-written and some heroes reappraised (think John Hunt and Edmund Hillary) this book is hugely valuable. Griffith Pugh's contribution to physiology is worth understanding. This book could so easily have been a vindictive justification of her father's life by a loving daughter but it is almost the opposite of that. Tuckey is mostly balanced in her appraisal of her father's work and character and shares her own personal story of the relationship (or lack of it) that she had with him. Recommended to anyone interested in mountaineering, exploration and science - a well written and researched biography.
review 2: I really enjoyed this book for 2 reasons one for Harriet Tucker's achievements and how they went throu
... moregh trial and errors to get to summit, second her candidness on how she went about deciding to write about her father whom she never knew and disliked but still giving him credit and recognition for his contribution to athletes and mountaineering. I truly believe all the facts in this book! A must read for anyone who likes hiking and may want to clim Everest one day! less
