review 1: Harvey Pekar puts his opinion on Israel out there along with a lot of historical background. The drawing is beautiful, and the discussion is fair. Harvey doesn't meet any Arabs or Palestinians or Muslims. He's just mulled this over throughout his life, explains his logic, and asks more from Israel. Harvey asks Israelis to deal compassionately with the Palestinians and to get closer to that ideal of Israel that Jews across the world were hoping for once upon a time.
review 2: Not the same Harvey Pekar tone (bitter, wry, everyday-speak-philosophical), which was a little disappointing. The flow was interesting, a conversation between a young graphic artist, JT, and Pekar on Israel. They briefly cover the history of the Jewish people (from Abraham, onwards), then t
... morehe modern state of Israel, as well as Pekar's opinions on Zionism and the Jewish state. The premise is interesting and well-organized, managing and connecting threads which cover ancient and modern world history, as well as Pekar's life up to the present-day conversation, which is seemingly reproduced in this book. The story was self aware (e.g. JT and Pekar discussing what to include in the middle of the book), which added an interesting dimension. less

I'd give a copy of this comic to everyone in my hometown, but then I'd also have to talk to them.

I really wanted to like this. I'm sympathetic to Pekar's views but it just didn't work for me.

Part history, part how Pekar came to his views on Israel (via some of that history).
