review 1: Of all the book, movies, stories, etc... that I have read about the Titanic and the survivors, this is, by far, the BEST!!! When those scientists were trying to raise the Titanic in the late 1990s, I was trying to telemarket tickets onto the ship that was to be there, nearby, for the event. It stuck with me and I wanted be one of those privileged enough to be on that trip. I never got to go and my life went on, but I never forgot! I watched the documentary about the raising of the Titanic, and the sad realization that it was not going to be possible - yet. I went into Kansas City, MO and saw the Titanic exhibit as it made it's way around the country. I still am in awe of the event, the portrayal so minimal of the devastation that occurred. The sinking of the Titanic was o... morene of the life-changing events that helped to shape the 20th century and those that lived in it. As much as any war, although different in its horror, it changed lives forever. April 15 will now mean so much more to me than just being a "tax deadline" and dreaded. It shall also be a day of remembrance and humility. And prayers said for those who perished. And those that survived.
review 2: I've always been fascinated with Titanic stories, movies and even saw the actual artifacts that have been raised. This was based on 14 Irish travelers hoping to immigrate to America. What's different about this account is that it includes the story about the community that was left behind and is based on actual events from a small county in Ireland in 1911-12. The parents, brothers and sisters, friends that didn't make the trip and how their leaving affected them and why they went in the first place. The audio reader hand a wonderful Irish brogue. Even my husband enjoyed listening to this as we were on a road trip. less
