review 1: This one was a book assignment from a friend at work. Despite the fact that it isn't something I would normally read it was still enjoyable. It kind of gave off the Nicholas Sparks sort of vibe. I think I loved Pops the most, he was vibrant even in his old age and the way Will doted over him made my heart happy. The only thing I didn't like was Will's hot temper. It never wained and honestly I don't understand how Adrienne could forgive him. It would have made more sense if she had butted in a final time and instead of blowing up he had accepted her then it would have felt like he had grown more from their time together.
review 2: Adrienne is recovering from a bitter divorce; she keeps saying she doesn't want to dwell on it but it follows her around like a sad
... morepuppy. She just wants to fix up her new-to-her, old Victorian in southern Florida to prove she can do something on her own. When she finds some old love letters in the attic, she gets interested in finding the WWII veteran who wrote them. This sets up the story with some great characters and the setting is lovely. There is a lot of angst in this book and sometimes the main characters come off as sulky teenagers, even though they aren't. I wasn't really rooting for Will as I started out rooting for Ryan. There are few surprises in this book but it was well-paced and the characters eventually live up to their hopes and dreams, but it takes a while to get there. Another book that feels like this one is "Jane's Melody" by Ryan Winfield, about another woman rebounding from a different kind of tragedy with the help of her friends. less
