review 1: Imagine having a disease so unusual that you have to either keep it to yourself or share a complex explanation that people invariably misunderstand? Heather Sellers is magnificently nonjudgmental as she explains face-blindness—not simply forgetting people's names, but not even being able to clearly see faces to the point that she doesn't even recognize her own husband unless she can do so in context (what he's wearing, where he's sitting, the car he's in.) She only realizes her problem in mid-life, about the time she begins to understand that her mother is a paranoid schizophrenic and her father has mental issues too complex to put in a box. This is a beautifully drawn story about making the most of what life deals you, and being a loving daughter no matter ... morewhat.
review 2: I enjoyed the first half of this book way more than the second half - it got a bit boring for me during that half. But, I enjoyed her crazy childhood/parent stories and I even enjoyed her little rambles about not understanding why she couldn't be okay with her marriage. Honestly, though, I was ready for it to be over towards the end. I wouldn't mind reading other things written by this author, but I guess I wasn't very interested in her disorder, as bad as that sounds. less

Interesting book about face recognition disorder. Felt like it jumped around too much.

A disturbing while educating tale.
