The Way of the Yakuza
review 1: With trepidation I began this book and with fervour and zeal I finished it. What a tale!Kinosuke and Brendan, our MC’s have their work cut out for them. Kinosuke, newly arrived in the tropical paradise of Hawaii, begins his new life unaccustomed to the American way of life, language and culture. He is misplaced in a new job and home but he has his family, his Yakuza beliefs of honour and fidelity. He has and knows his place. Brendan, ex-navy SEAL, is unhappy with his fate of private investigator and bodyguard to the Washington elect and elite. He finds himself investigating the unusual group of men running a dojo in Hawaii for Senator Harris. And while the senator is untrustworthy the subject of the investigation is his son, surely a man wouldn’t wish harm upon his son... more? And thus the adventure begins. For surely this is an adventure story first and a romance second. The reader is drawn into a rich and vibrant tale of truth and deception, of honour and dishonour, and intrigue. Surrounded by the beauty of Hawaii, the men in the story fight with their whole being for the men they care for, be they friends/brothers in arms or lovers.I was held hostage by this tale and loved every minute of it.
review 2: I enjoyed this book for the most part. I loved the two main characters and liked their story. I liked the location. Two things stopped it from 5 stars.1. Too many POVSs, I just wanted Brendan and Kinosuke; and too many random characters.2. A significant portion of the second half was taken up with a rescue mission, this could have been considerably cut. Both of these issues meant less time was spent with the MCs, there were some issues I felt were eluded to, that were not fully explored. less
