review 1: I didn't read Savvy yet, but now I want to, because Scumble was a very enjoyable read. The voice of the narrator was a thirteen year old boy whose family discovers a special power on their thirteenth birthday. Ledge, the protagonist of this book, finds that his talent is destroying mechanical things when he loses his temper. Its causes many problems. Ledger, his parents, and sister travel from Indiana to Wyoming for a family wedding, and Ledger spends the summer out west enjoying the freedoms of being away from his parents. His is a large, supportive but wacky family, and Ledge, his family and his new friend Sarah Jane overcome many problems.

... moreere is little relation between the two other than the premise - certain people in certain families have talents, which they call "savvies". These magical talents vary widely (and wildly), from going invisible to growing trees in seconds, to our heroes talent of breaking things. He has to find out for himself if his savvy is a curse, or a blessing, as he struggles with friends, learning to know his cousins, and dealing with prejudice and the challenges of growing up. An excellent book, and heartily recommended for its target audience. less
