review 1: Translated from the Italian, this tale set in modern Venice introduces Elena, an art restorer absorbed in her beautiful frescoes, her good pals from student days who remind her to get out more, and a chef called Leonardo.Leonardo decides to introduce Elena to some delights. I did think the girl's being a teetotal vegetarian was a bit strong for Italy, and Leonardo has plenty of choice between wine, food and bodily pleasures. He's no gentleman though, and the risk is that he'll break the girl's heart. I saw no mention of taking precautions against pregnancy or disease, unlike the more responsible American erotic novels, but I was pleased to see that the games enjoyed do not include violence or dominance. This is a lovely, gently erotic tale for adults and for incurable rom... moreantics.
review 2: I was given this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.Beautifully written with visions of Italy, the arts, food and of course pleasure. Elena is on her first solo reconstruction job of a fresco and Leonardo is the temporary tenant, a renowned chef. She seems a little timid, not really sure of herself and Leo latches on like a leech. He's sexy and confident that he can change her world to be more open and full of pleasure. She experiences so much with him that he becomes like a drug. Elena has a normal loving relationship with an old college friend that was just starting to go somewhere when he moves. Leonardo took over immediately to broaden her horizons. Eventually decisions are made for her but are they the right ones? This is the first of a trilogy exploring Elena's world. While it's descriptions are beautiful and the words are poetic a few things bothered me. The first being they never used a condom, not even discussed it once. Some of their involvement actually made me skip parts because the thoughts of not using one turned me off. The second being the translation, a little rough in some spots translating from Italian to English. Easy to understand but awkward in spots. The third and last being Elena's relationship with Fil, we are just to assume their friendship and connection because he's not really in the story very much, just a brief mention or a quick text. less
