review 1: This book was a fast read - I read it in 1 day and some hours the previous day. I really liked the style of writing by Irene. It was very easy to understand - no words that felt like I had to have a dictionary with me. I really liked Gabby - the 5 year old daughter - even though her world is crumbling around her she has the most happy outlook on life (for the most part). As for Alice I think she was a very strong woman and probably really portrays real life women who go through affairs and divorces - and have to pick up the pieces when kids find out/throw fits.
review 2: Picked this up at Costco out of desperation but let's see!!It was the perfect book for a cold rainy day. What I thought was going to be crap really did turn out to be a crap but thoroughly enj... moreoyable crap. Marriage, divorce, bratty kids and a dying mother made this book thoroughly enjoyable after sitting through the tedium of Ann Patchett's State of Wonder. This is a perfect vacation book!!I can't believe I am giving it 4 stars (I would have liked to give 3 and 1/2). less
