review 1: This book began really strongly for me. There was a deep sense of place, I was enjoying getting to know the rather damaged residents of the neighborhood, there was a mystery to solve, but it just sort of fell apart for me. It turns out there really was no mystery. It was just a dull and depressing story. I found the Jonathan/Val storyline creepy, and the only character I really liked was Fadi. It was a letdown.
