Darkness Before Dawn Trilogy
review 1: Another good read and excellent second installment in this trilogy. Although I have to admit I did miss Victor in this story, (he wasn't around too much) the story moved with flow and purpose. As Dawn wakes up in the hospital and figures out that Victor didn't turn her when he took her blood, she is both grateful and a little disappointed. When visted by Tegan, Tegan tells her how she can't sleep at night due to nightmares of Sin, who is still out there somewhere. Then Michael visits and she ends their relationship. He knows she has feelings for Victor and he can't fathom how she would fall for a vampire. Rachel visits and once she is out of the hospital, she is informed that she has been relieved of her duties as a delegate. Even though they have a new delegate in place, ... moreone of Sin's minions comes to announce that the city of Denver is to hand Dawn over or Sin's wrath will destroy the city. Clive tells Dawn that he'll never give her up, and he wants to put her on the night train when it comes in so she can go out west towards L.A. to research "the thirst." It's at it's worst out there, and that's where Victor's friend Richard's father rules. With the Day Walkers in Denver, they're afraid that with the non-existence of donations since "hell night," the vamps will start draining each other and there will be a bunch of infected vamps running around Denver with the thirst. He wants Dawn to meet with the head people in L.A. to see if they have any insight as to how to stop it.So Dawn does meet w/ Victor who tells her even though he loves her, they cannot be together. Things never work out between vamps and humans. She is crushed, but at night, when she dreams of him, it seems so real and in these dreams, they are together and Dawn is happy. But getting on the train is another ordeal. She has a night watchman w/ her, who turns out to be someone she knows very well. As well as an unexpected visitor on the train who wasn't supposed to be there. This trip on the night train has a lot of action on it, as well as her destination to L.A. It's not all that it seems and the end of the book is a real eye opener. Not only about L.A., but about Dawn's heritage, the thirst and Sin himself. Can't wait to get my hands on book three, the last in this story. This is definitely worth reading. A totally different take on vampires, no Twilight storyline in sight!
review 2: I really love this series a lot, but I have to say I was very disappointed with this book. I loved the first one, and this was kind of a let down compared to that. I love Victor, and of course he was barely in this one. I will say one of the things I love about this series is that there is no love triangle! YAY! Dawn loves Michael as a friend and knows that her true love will always be Victor, which just makes me happy. I'm curious to see how the series will end. less
