review 1: I am not sure that I want to recommend this book. I found the premise of nuns in France during the German Occupation intriguing. I found the main character a wee bit(!)improbable. I would agree with Mother Catherine: Sr. Bernard is miraculously stupid. As a religious of 44 years, I was offended by Sr. Bernard and the author's portrayal of her over and over again. I am not sure I would want any of my sisters in community to read this book.
review 2: Not sure what to say about the book. I love historical fiction. The book didn't bring the past to life in a way that was believable. It felt like the author didn't know enough about the time to include the details that would have brought insight to the location or time. I appreciate books that deal with faith and
... more religion. The main character didn't seem faithful, more fearful. I also didn't know what to make of the main character - is she simple or someone with mental disabilities? In the end, the book left me with a sense of what it truly means to be lonely. less

I enjoyed as much of it as I read but not so much that I was willing to finish it.
