review 1: I am validated. Thanks to Mr. Bonnet, I can know put a name to what I knew about myself all along--I am a bibliomaniac reader. Before I would just say I was a bibliophile. I have the urge to count my books (maybe I have a meager 1,000?) and to write down my own mixed-up, workable (for me) classification system. I love this book and am glad that it will live on my shelves for the years to come.
review 2: I really wish this book had been better overall. The parts where Bonnet talks about books, libraries, and general bibliophilia are wonderful! But the parts where he digresses into actual book titles are so disconnected from me as a reader and collector. Is it because he is French? European? More high-brow? I just couldn't connect with him at all when it came... more to his reading background, which was sad for me because the book started off so delightfully. My recommendation for readers is to skim this book and just enjoy its general nuggets of wonderful writing and ignore the parts where he talks about specific books. less
