Phenomenal Friday-Taking Advantage of The Silence!

Learn to learn to get in touch with the silence within yourself, and know that everything in life has purpose. There are no mistakes, no coincidences, all events are blessings given to us to learn from.  ~Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

I’m a nocturnal creature by nature and an early bird by habit. It’s just past midnight here and everyone has gone in for the night. Late nights give me a chance to go uninterrupted. My thoughts are more focus without the distraction of company or the noise of uncontrollable thoughts racing through my head from having to focus on so many other things. It’s also a great opportunity to journal, something I’ve fallen down on the past few weeks. I have been jotting stuff down in my online journal but writing my thoughts on paper gives me a more sense of fulfilment. Call me old fashion! I’m all for saving trees but I love paper, it’s also more accessible as I can take my journal to bed with me or pop in my handbag for journaling on the go.

Journal is a form of therapy, it helps you to focus on the things that matter most to you by helping you concentrate your thoughts on the things you’re passionate about. As you’re writing you form a mental clarity and an emotional connection to your thoughts. Reflecting on the things I wanted 3, 2 or even 12 months ago gives me a deeper understanding of myself how much I’ve grown, how many times I’ve fallen down and how many times I’ve gotten back up.

The most important thing about journaling is:

1. You don’t have to commit to it. You can do as often or as long as you want-60 seconds or an hour.

2. It’s not like keeping a diary. You can journal anything, some of my entries are doodles with a side note of “having a really shitty day!” Or “I saw a rainbow today!”

3. It can be letters to your future self.

4. You can journal anywhere. On the bus, on a train, in bed or in the park. Some people prefer to find a comfort zone they can garner inspiration from a cafe, favourite bookstore or a library.

Today is December 1st, if you need a break to clear your mind before heading into the holiday storm take advantage of the sound of silence. Breath, Eat, Sleep, Repeat and in between Journal!

This is my submission to Debbie’s Forgiving Friday  series, where she writes about and invite others to share their thoughts on  Forgiveness, Self-Love and Personal Growth.
