review 1: The Fracking King was not as bad as many of the reviewers say it was. The protagonist was charming, awkward, and an easy kid to like. But something seemed unfinished about the book and the ending seemed rushed. I won't give away the ending but one of the unfinished things was that the kid, Win Crwth, carried around a jar of gooey well water that had been ruined by fracking. The well water poisoned the dairy cattle on another kid's farm and ruined his family financially. So Win promises to show the poisoned water to the governor. He carries it around for days, keeping the jar from breaking, and he even carries it through the state-wide Scrabble tournament, but after all that, he never does anything with it. Like I said, it seemed kind of unfinished. Shouldn't something have... more happened after carrying that jar around for days? It would have been nice if Win could have done something to save the other kid's farm, but it never happened. It was an all right book with a very appealing character but I think it could have delved into the lives of other characters more fully.
review 2: This wasn't a truly awful book, but it didn't feel like a finished product to me. I found that many of the characters felt underdeveloped, and I had a hard time really caring about most of them. Many characters don't get the benefit of a real end to their story arch, and they drop out of the novel with nothing more than a one sentence explanation. There were a number of inconsistencies, most notably that characters were referred to by name before we actually met them (ex: "Hooke looked like...," before Winston has been introduced to Hooke). The scrabble and text message sections were a little difficult to read on a Kindle, but this isn't the first time formatting has gotten screwed up in the transition from print to ebook. Readers should make sure they understand fracking and its consequences before reading, since it's never fully explained. Overall, I'm glad I was able to read this for free and that it wasn't terribly long. Had it not been a "Kindle First" book, I wouldn't have bothered, but as it stands, I don't think I got anything valuable out of "The Fracking King." less

Decent quick read with some comedic aspects. I liked the concept but some parts were choppy.
