review 1: I had a really hard time with this. It took me a while to figure out why and then suddenly, it struck me, this man is genuinely unlikeale. If you ever want to know what a psychopath is like in real life, look no further than James Fallon's book. It's a terrifying insight into the mind of a psychopath, the glibness, the facility, the complete inability to connect emotionally with others on any significant level. How his wife and family have dealt with him is completely lacking from this account, simply, I think, because for Fallon, the idea that other people have feelings worthy of exploration never forms part of his equation.
review 2: This - was interesting. Fallon's decent at breaking down the science for a layperson, so it wasn't too over my head. That was
... more appreciated. At the same time, it was a bit of an uncomfortable read because he seemed to revel in the idea that he's kind of a jerk. There's a lot of neat information about current theories and what science knows so far, and I like that's interspersed with his own personal journey - but it's a bit unsatisfying because he's so very unlikeable. He's an unreliable narrator, and that bothered me. less

Quite interesting, but the writing is a bit chaotic (or hypomanic?).
