review 1: Another book that sums up the current state of the world without offering any quantitative solutions. It offers a decent, cursory overview of our various calamities - financial sector, energy, climate, resources scarcity. What is unacceptable is a very few scattered footnotes and its complete lack of graphs, charts and NO index or bibiography. Just take him for his word. There are much better, and less opinionated and biased, books out there.
review 2: Main takeaways? We need to focus our efforts on public transportation and local foods. We need to reevaluate our own lifestyle. Humans, I think, are adaptable. However, we are too obsessed with our own capital growth that many of us can't or won't give up those oh so important (insert sarcasm) novelties of the 21
... morest century. Green movements are happening on the ground- we can't wait for government and big business to untangle themselves. less

He's probably right but he's also repetitive, boring, and entirely too pleased to be a nay-sayer.

Excellent book about the state of our country and where it's headed, in one person's opinion.

Batten Down the Hatches. This dude seems to know what he's talking about.

My pick for "if you can read just one book by Kunstler, which one?"
