review 1: Very good story, and a tear-jerker, but the jumping back and forth between timelines and characters was a bit disruptive for me. I only gave 4 stars instead of 5 because I felt a very important part of the story was missing: Caroline's. For 50 years she kept the faith and waited, but no mention is given of how she did this. The son/narrator would really only know the story from his mother's point of view, since he never met his father, but none of her daily struggles or emotions as a single mother was even touched on. Still worth at read.
review 2: I was so tempted to give this book 5 stars. Why didn't I? Well, I just felt that there are other books that are better written. That being said, I loved it. I did watch the movie (Hallmark with Betty White as Carolin
... moree,) and I'm not sure which I like better. They are both good for different reasons. The book didn't make me cry, but that's not saying much...I've never cried for a book. The movie, on the other hand, is one of the only movies that I bawl through. less
