review 1: This book was a definite chill-out, mindless, quick, easy read and that is exactly what I needed. It only took me about 45 minutes to read this book and I enjoyed it. Hercules goes to stay with his uncle after his father passes away. His uncle gives him a list of 12 things to accomplish while he is staying with him (for two weeks). At first Hercules finds the list ridiculous, but then, in strange ways he begins to cross off things on the list (sometimes on purpose and sometimes by accident). The book follows the change in Hercules as he becomes more comfortable with himself and the life that he leads. It helps him address the issue of his father's death and the rocky relationship that they had. (And all within 45 minutes, haha). Overall, I thought it was a good book. Like ... moreI said, an easy read that could be devoured in one sitting.
review 2: A very quick read, but I think it's meant to be like that. It's a fun read too. James "Hercules" Martino has just lost his father. His mother doesn't know what to do, so she sends him to his Uncle's place for two weeks. His Uncle has twelve labors for him to complete before he returns home. The book is fun despite the sadness around it. We are able to see a teen working through his problems of losing his father and trying to understand what that means. There are a lot of funny moments in the book. Like when he has to go to seven job interviews. Lots of laughs and a some growth. A better book than I thought it was going to be. less
