review 1: 3.75 Christmas stars! Will returns home after 4 years away from college. Will left when the priest at their church convinced his parents to pray numerous times a day with and for Will to be "cured" of being gay. It all explodes and Will leaves for college and doesn't return. Will finally decides to come home for Christmas. When Will gets off the bus he is met by Ryan. Ryan was kicked out of his house by his parents when he came out to them. Wills parents take Ryan in. This shocks and angers Will. How could his parents accept another gay kid into not only their lives but their home when they couldn't accept Will for who he was? It was a well written book. I loved Ryan and Will's chemistry. This book had the potential to be a full length novel. It had a great story line and ... moreI wish the author had taken advantage of it. What I didn't like was the speed of the relationship. Will is only home for maybe 4 or 5 days. The relationship moves at warp speed. After only a couple of days they have had sex and they are dating. The "L" word is spoken. It was way too fast. The sex was not hot.. It was weirdly written. It didn't flow right. Instead of letting the characters tell me what was happening, the author told me.. I don't know if I am putting this correct. I just know the more tame sex scenes had better chemistry and was sexier than the actual sex itself. All in all its a good book, with tons of potential.. Maybe Jamie will give us another novella...
review 2: I really like how this story was told. I was very curious as to the reason why Will left home and was so angry with his parents because they seem nice enough. So I was fully engaged in the story. I liked the initial tension between Will and Ryan. When the reason for the discord between Will, his parents, and that priest was finally revealed, I was happy it wasn't for the obvious reason. Ryan was really sweet and young and I can definitely see him falling for Will that quickly so I didn't have a problem with the quickness of their relationship. Plus they're in Smallville, USA. I really liked this story and now I want some eggnog! less
