review 1: This book was a four-star for creativity and ambition, but just three stars for actual execution. It's distinctive for its overtly comic tone, which is unusual in a genre which tends to take itself very seriously. There are some truly beautifully-written sentences. Some very thoughtful reflections on life and relationships too. Highly introspective for a book that doesn't take itself too seriously! But my God is it verbose. I wanted to quit it numerous times when the noise-to-signal ratio got too out of balance. The author could use better editorial guidance, IMPO.
review 2: This would make a good movie - of the Serial Mom/Welcome to the Dollhouse variety. But I experienced it as a book, so that didn't bode so well for me. It goes from deep/serious to comedic
... more horror and then attempts to be both, to some degree of success. It's how seriously the author wants me to take ridiculous people that is a problem; the writing itself is pretty damn good and the characters are fully developed. Either you will really get into it when the dog's perspective enters the melee or you will find yourself becoming distant from the whole ordeal. I was in group B. Still wanted to see what happened though. less

More literary than I expected and some passages I had to read aloud

Hate his writing style. Good plot line though.
