review 1: This is a fantastic new perspective on a classic tale that everyone knows - or thinks they know. Odone stays true to Lewis Carroll's original text of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. While most characters are familiar, there are a few that are not so well known including the duchess, the Mock Turtle, and a very large puppy.Odone's stick figure illustrations add so much flavor and modernity to his retelling of the story. His adorable rendering of Alice is simple, but expressive. With new spunky commentary and that familiar insatiable curiosity, Alice is fresh and relatable.A joy to look at and to read, Odone has breathed new life into a timeless novel.
review 2: "What I learned from this book..." is that Jamison Odone is taking graphic fiction to a wonderful
... moreplace. It's part picture book, part graphic novel, part cartoon; which considering the state of flux in the world of literature (so long old publishing world, what with your books printed on paper and what not, and hello to the new world... you know, the one that requires lots of electricity even to use a dictionary), is brilliant. The book flows just like the traditional story but with the whimsical twist of asides and inner monologues espoused by each of the characters. I do not use the word "whimsy" in a derogatory sense. The fact that the characters move and speak with such effortlessness, as if traipsing around one's living, is a profoundly difficult bit of creativity, which Odone pulls off with the subtlest skill. Very few writers or illustrators have such a light touch and to do it with so little visual information, these are stick people after all, is simply cool. Plus, I bought my copy after seeing it on the “cool kids” table at the Strand, you know, the table between the kid’s lit section and the graphic novels… so this has to be a good book, right? less

It's not that it wasn't very good... I just didn't enjoy it.
