review 1: How could I not appreciate a book about the ur-children's librarian, Anne Carroll Moore? In this bright picture book biography, we learn that Miss Moore's strong-willed nature was present from her girlhood in Maine. Making her way to New York City, Miss Moore brought her ideas to the New York Public Library, and then to the world of publishing, and children have benefited ever since. Suffice to say that Miss Moore's story times featured Theodor Geisel and Ludwig Bemelmans. The bright, naive illustrations add to the energy of Miss Moore's story in a fun book that would work well as a read-aloud.
review 2: Pinborough’s story of How Anne Carroll Moore created libraries for children is absolutely wonderful. It twists a true story about the woman who created the f
... moreirst library in to a wonderful book that could seem almost fictional with how enjoyable it is. The combination of learning an important lesson and entertainment in this book is done perfectly. The use of the phrase “Miss Moore Thought Otherwise” is used periodically throughout the book and becomes a rather powerful phrase by the end. The pictures are also done splendidly; the bright colors and attention to detail are sure to keep a child interested. less
