review 1: GREAT BOOK!!!...Great storyline about women's rights and spousal and abuse. And how these issues were probably dealt with in the late 1800's....LOVED Addie & Charles. Addies longing to adopt a child (a daughter) her difficulty to achieve her dream and all the obstacles....Because she was unmarried (a spinster) at that time period. Addie's adorable relationship with little Emma!!!! Just a GREAT Historical read!!! I'd recommend it even if your not crazy about romance, but you ARE in to Historicals!!!
review 2: It is heart wrenching to know that orphans were taken in just to be farm workers, although I suppose even the farmers own children could be used for working in the same wayAdelaide pushes for rights for women in a time when there weren't many. She wanted to
... more be able to take in one of the orphan's from the train but the men in charge refused to allow a single woman to care for a child. The book was also on carrying our childhoods with us into adulthood.A good read. less
