review 1: In 1957, when a Midwestern woman landed a job at The New Yorker, she didn’t expect to stay long at the reception desk. But for twenty-one years, she took messages, ran interference for jealous wives checking on their husbands, drank with famous writers at famous watering holes throughout Greenwich Village, and was seduced, two-timed, and proposed to by a few of the magazine’s eccentric luminaries. It should have read better than it did and the reason she stayed a secretary is disappointing.
review 2: When I chose this book, I was expecting something like "The Devil Wears Prada" meets Mary Tyler Moore. Instead I got a who's who of old literary New York told by a young socialite who lacks the basic assertiveness needed to kick a drunk out of her apartment at
... more1:00am. While I could relate to the love of language expressed, the overly detailed descriptions of the chauvinistic and disreputable behaviours of the old boys club bored me to tears. So glad I live in the 21st century! Gave up on page 34, couldn't take it. less

It wasn't a good as i thought that it was gonna be but i would still recommend it to others.

DNF. So so dull, I just couldn't handle it. It was due to the library, so back it went.
