review 1: Sad, harrowing, uplifting and inspirational, all tied together in an uncomfortable, yet ultimately very readable story. This girl's story, this family's story, is probably not too far off from the baggage that far too many people carry with them, buried away just under the surface. I was afraid for her, inspired by her, and ultimately, through her eyes, saw the good, along with the bad, of each of the adults who crossed her path.
review 2: The author, Jayne Pupek, did an excellent job capturing the thoughts, feelings, and innocence of Ellie, an 11-yr-old girl. Ellie is in an impossible spot and deals with things as best she can. My mom instincts kicked in, and I just wanted to rescue Ellie and slap some sense into her father.
